quite interesting

Dear Friend,

I thought you would be very interested in the press release below that was just sent to national and local press across America.

Essentially, it appears that the Republican and Democrat parties have missed their filing deadline to submit their presidential nominees with the Texas Secretary of State. As a result, Bob Barr is the only candidate legitimately on the ballot in Texas.

It's interesting times folks. . .

In Liberty,

Shane Cory
Deputy Campaign Manager
Bob Barr for President

P.S. Interestingly enough, as I write this, attorneys are representing us in the state of West Virginia to challenge their early, August 1st deadline.

Barr Only Presidential Candidate on Texas Ballot

Republicans, Democrats miss deadline to file presidential candidates in Texas

Atlanta, GA - Bob Barr is slated to be the only presidential candidate on the ballot in Texas after Republicans and Democrats missed the Aug. 26 deadline to file in the state.

"Unless the state of Texas violates their own election laws, Congressman Barr will be the only presidential candidate on the ballot," says Russell Verney, campaign manager for the Barr Campaign and the former campaign manager for Ross Perot. "Texas law makes no exceptions for missing deadlines."

The Texas Secretary of State Web site shows only Bob Barr as the official candidate for president in Texas.

"We know all about deadlines," says Verney. "We are up against them constantly in our fight to get on the ballot across the nation. When we miss deadlines, we get no second chances. This is a great example of how unreasonable deadlines chill democracy."

"Republicans and Democrats make certain that third party candidates are held to ballot access laws, no matter how absurd or unreasonable," says Verney. "Therefore, Republicans and Democrats should be held to the same standards."

will any libertarians ever get elected to a state or federal position ?

Appointed maybe, but elected NO !!! I'll probably be chastised for this blog but it is time to look at the facts of this on many levels.

1.) There are NO libertarians with any experience that it requires to be elected except those which have come into the party lately such as Bob Barr & Mike Gravel.

I will expound on this later as this part of the post will be more complex then handling the state level and local level libertarians.

On the state and local level very few if any use the time they have available to educate themselves on the jobs of which they seek. The state party doesn't have the resources to help those which seek an office of state senator or state representative. Very few if any of the libertarians I know have the type of capitol to cause such a stir ala Jesse Ventura to create a ground swell to win an election. Many libertarians run for office just to keep ballot access when in all reality all they do is harm the principled positions which convinced them to run in the first place. How do you convince people to vote for you if you haven't the time or resources to make what your doing worthwhile ?? Why should people vote for individuals which haven't taken the time or studied up on the positions to form a coherent answer ??

FREEDOM & LIBERTY is great but if your elected how do you get to that point ?? You don't have the supreme power to grant that so why does it take up so much of your rhetoric in trying to get elected ?? Why do people run for positions of which they have NO knowledge nor are they willing to gain that knowledge ?? Why run for a state position or a federal position when you never held any local positions of note and thus the knowledge you possess is quite minimal ??

Libertarians have done little or nothing on the local level to build a resume which will garner them the finesse to overcome the shortcomings of belonging to a third party. The attitude of throwing your vote away is very prevalent and people WILL NOT support you unless you have done something of note.

The party does have people on the local level in many areas of the country, some of these individuals have stuck to libertarian principles while in office, while others have gone to the "dark side" and become a normal politician.

People for the most part are scared of absolute freedom as somehow they believe without government controlling every minute of your life that "anarchy" would reign supreme. To quote Mellony Burlison "anarchy doesn't mean NO rules it means NO rulers" or something close to that.

Do you really need government telling you what type of vehicle your "allowed" to park in your driveway ?? Do you really need government to tell you to stay on your own side of the highway ??
Most will say NO !! to these types of questions, except the meddling of people has allowed government to supersede in every dealing of our lives for the tiniest of things to be regulated.
Government mandates you NOT remove the catalytic converter on YOUR car, government mandates you NOT make any engine modifications to YOUR car (California) . Government mandates that all tires are equipped with a low air pressure sensor because people don't check the air pressure on the tires of their vehicles. Government mandates the types of products you are allowed to ingest into YOUR body. Government mandates the types of weeds which are allowed to grow on your property even if these plants were here from the beginning.

Most people seem destined to allow government to continue to micromanage how you will live, how YOUR money is allowed to be dispersed, what you will do in your daily lives. A short list of these items are as follows;

1. Abortion
2. Seat belts
3. Energy
4. War on Drugs
5. Prostitution

the list could be longer but these are all areas where the federal government has prevented mankind from branching out to solve these issues on the state or local level.

This my friends is why NO libertarian will ever be elected to any state or federal position. Libertarians want government to have less involvement in their lives, however many people are not comfortable unless government tells them the rules of the game of LIFE.

Bob Barr has the name recognition since he served in the U.S. Congress as a republican. He was elected as part of the Newt Gingrich led republican revolution of 1994 and he has served quite well as a "conservative" republican. Mr Barr during his tenure of service represented the views of his Georgia delegation quite well.
Mr Barr realized that government has taken to managing every portion of life and he helped in generating that power to the federal government with the passage of the Patriot Act, which has to its credit stopped super terrorist Eliot Spitzer from visiting his paid for sex kitten in Washington D.C., the nations is so much safer now.
Mr Barr allowed for the Department of Education, HHS, EPA, and various other government entities to grow exponentially while he was in congress. It requires more than one individual to FORCE change and there are NOT enough libertarians that can actually stand on principle for it to happen.

I would still much sooner have a reformed Bob Barr then the combination of socialist/communist McCain or Obama

Could Bob Barr’s Run as Libertarian Doom McCain?

Once more the elitist still believe that a voter is a mind numb robot and they are going to cast a ballot for McCain if Bob Barr isn't in the race just like the other side will proclaim that Ralph Nader will lampoon Barack Obama's chance of getting elected.

As per this article if Ron Paul were not in the primary McCain by caveat would have earned that 35 million. I respect George Will as a man and columnist but in this column he is quite the buffoon.

The reason why Bob Barr could get enough votes to scare the elite is because the elite have been exactly what they believe themselves to be ELITIST !!!

People don't trust the two party system, at least the people that think for themselves don't, and therefore we will either vote for an individual which best represents our views but we won't hold our noses to vote for the lessor evil in any election.

1. Could Bob Barr’s Run as Libertarian Doom McCain?

Former Republican Rep. Bob Barr is seen as the Libertarian Party’s most likely presidential candidate — and he could wind up torpedoing John McCain’s White House hopes.

“Given the recent fundraising prowess of a kindred spirit — Ron Paul's campaign for the Republican nomination siphoned up $35 million, mostly off the Internet — libertarians are feeling their oats,” political analyst George F. Will writes in Newsweek.

“Come November, Barr conceivably could be to John McCain what Ralph Nader was to Al Gore in 2000 — ruinous.”

Nader was a weak third-party candidate and won only 2,882,955 popular votes nationwide, but 97,488 of them were in Florida — where, because of Nader, George W. Bush won by 537 votes, Will notes.

Shane Cory, the Libertarian Party's executive director, “thinks his party is upwardly mobile,” Will writes.

“In 2004, its presidential candidate received just 397,265 votes, a mere .32 percent of the national popular vote…

“But in no state was the Libertarian vote larger than the winning candidate's margin of victory. This year, however, Cory thinks the party can far surpass its best national performance — 921,299 votes in 1980.”

Cory and Barr say the party almost certainly will be on the ballot in at least 48 states.

Republican consultant Craig Shirley recently wrote: “This Libertarian thing may be bigger than anyone is foreseeing right now.”

Barr left the GOP in 2006 over what he called bloated spending and civil liberties intrusions by the Bush administration.

A former U.S. attorney in Atlanta, Barr served eight years as a Republican congressman from Georgia before losing his seat in 2002 after a redistricting.

A Barr run for the White House would be handicapped by “John McCain's handiwork,” Will added.

“One wealthy libertarian would give $1 million if the McCain-Feingold law regulating political participation did not ban contributions of more than $28,500 to national parties.

But Will concludes: “If libertarian voters cost McCain the presidency, that will be condign punishment.”

Bob Barr Weighing Presidential Run

Quite possibly the best news that could occur to the Libertarian Party.

Former Republican Georgia Rep. Bob Barr is considering a run for president on the Libertarian Party ticket.

Barr told FOX News on Tuesday that he should know in the next few days whether he is going to go for it.

If he does decide to make an announcement in the next few days, Barr said it “would not be in either Washington or Atlanta.“

Another source todl FOX News that the announcement should happen this weekend, probably on April 5. That is the day Barr is scheduled to be the keynote speaker at the Heartland Libertarian Conference in Kansas City, Mo.

Barr, who joined the Libertarian Party after leaving Congress in 2003, is looking to attract conservatives who are unhappy with the choice of John McCain as the expected Republican presidential nominee. McCain and Barr are at odds primarily over the role of U.S troops in Iraq, although both agree that tough interrogation methods should not be permitted.

FITNews, who was first to report the possible presidential bid, wrote that Barr will receive the endorsement of Texas Republican Rep. Ron Paul, a GOP presidential candidate who is still technically in the race but has not suggested he would throw his support to McCain. McCain and Paul, who ran on the Libertarian Party presidential ticket in 1988, also are at odds primarily over the role of U.S. troops in Iraq.

Barr, who represented Georgia’s 7th Congressional District in the U.S. House from 1995-2003 and served as a House manager during impeachment proceedings against former President Bill Clinton, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution last week that he identifies closely with Paul’s outlook.

“Ron Paul tapped into a great deal of that dissatisfaction and that awareness. Unfortunately, working through the Republican party structure, it became impossible for him to really move forward with his movement. But we have to have ….a rallying point out there to harness that energy, that freedom in this election cycle,” he said.
