Sometimes it just happens

It wasn't that long ago that I had mentioned that NO ONE affiliated with the city modus operandi should be included in interviewing or hiring the new city manager, after all those involved in city politics are why we are hundred or so million in debt. Derek White also seems to be acutely aware of this and wrote such in a guest column for the Community Free Press

http://www.cfpmidweek.com/weeks/IssuePDFs/vo6i03web.pdf

There is probably very little that Derek and I would agree on politically, but having our mayor pro term Gary Deaver heading up the committee to select our newest city employee is quite counter productive to giving the city a NEW start.

Tom,

I think Derek White is more than acutely aware of what is going on in the City. Second, I know Derek White will become the next Zone-1 Councilman. With his work in the Grant Beach area and as Chairman of the Board for the CACCD for the city. I feel you may be understating what Derek brings to this City.

I would invite you to reread what I wrote instead of making assumptions which fit your opinion.
I made NO comment on whether Derek would be a good council member or not, only that he and I disagree on many subjects when it comes to politics.
I do however agree with Derek that having the people who got the city in this position as the very same people to hire the new city manager is quite counter productive.
As for Derek being my next representative on city council we will just have to wait and see if that happens come election time. Personally I haven't anything against Derek, except he is a little more government oriented as a means to assist people, where I feel this has and does lead to dependency and an addiction of the worst kind.

I think Derek falls under the term moderate conservative. Second, I don't see Whayne or Ibarra beating Derek in Zone -1. When talking with Derek he speaks highly of you and overall feels that you may have more Ideas in common than you think. The Zone -1 race will come down to Whayne and White and we can all agree that White is the choice.

Well the term conservative can mean much to many different people. Personally I see a conservative as someone that will use the police force of government to restrict or prohibit someone from doing something that they personally don't agree with.

I'm really not sure Mr. Whayne will even run this coming term and if he does I don't see much support for him up here on the north end of town. I believe people are getting sick and tired of the status quo of city council and local government.
I don't know Derrick personally which is why I haven't said anything about him in any manner. I do know he lost by a small margin to James Andrews, which had James actually run a proactive campaign he could've been sitting in that seat instead of Denny.
I believe Denny's time has come and gone and he should for the good of the area step down from his council seat as he isn't representing the best interest of Zone 1 or of Springfieldians.

As for Nicholas Ibarra he seems like a decent person who I have gotten to know recently and he and I have some things in common and there are issues where he and I differ but I haven't gotten too know Derek White that well and look forward to getting to know him better during the campaign for this seat.

As the candidates stand now. How do u see the race playing out?

I would hope Denny would just resign from this post after his term has expired, for many reasons least of all for his health and sanity. As for Derek or Nicholas it depends on if they have a message which resonates with the people. Nicholas wants government accountability from my few talks with him, not sure where Derek is going with his campaign since I haven't talked to him.
I believe both would make good representatives for this area and I would hope they could change the rubber stamp committee which now occupies the council chambers. I'm also biased because I want government to spend the money wisely and invest in areas where the investment is going to create more revenue streams, they haven't done this since I've been living here. City center will never be the money generating hub that some envision and neither will Commercial Street unless the business there actually step up to the plate and advertise themselves in some manner.
